North America is the largest target region for agriculture investors, according to Valoral Advisors, the South American agribusiness consultancy based in Argentina and Luxembourg.
By assets under management, North America takes 38 percent of the pie closely followed by South America at 21 percent, according to Valoral’s recent report The Rise of the Food and Agriculture Private Equity Space.
Farmland assets and liquid equities comprise more 60 percent of all assets under management, which stands at around $44 billion in total, according to Valoral. The private equity industry handles 20 percent, representing over $8 billion across 40 funds. There are more than 230 agriculture-related funds in total, says the report.
