MandateWire: Institutions’ latest agri moves

Institutional investors are engaging with agriculture asset management firms, according to MandateWire data.

Twenty-five global institutional investors launched agriculture manager searches between January 2013 and March 14, 2014, according to MandateWire data.

A further 18 made investments into the asset class, defined by MandateWire as timber and farmland, while 18 awarded mandates to agriculture asset management firms. Institutions were also busy making plans for the sector as 17 started a review of the asset class and 29 made plans to invest into agri; of this seven were doing so for the first time.

Just two institutions terminated mandates during the period. The institutional investor tracking service surveyed 3,125 institutions between January 2013 and March 14, 2014. It recorded the agriculture investment activities of 60 institutions in North America, 33 in Europe and 18 in Asia-Pacific.
