Equilibrium hires Babu for agri initiative

The real assets fund platform has hired Atish Babu, who previously founded and worked at Omnivore Capital, to launch a new agri investment offering.

Equilibrium Capital, the real assets fund platform, has hired Atish Babu as senior agriculture strategist.

Babu is responsible for launching Equilibrium’s third agri investment offering and he hopes to announce a new venture in North America or Asia Pacific within the next 12 months, he told Agri Investor.

The platform’s existing agri investment offerings are the ACM Permanent Crops fund and the Australian Pastoral Fund.

Babu joined the firm at the end of February. Previously he founded and worked at Omnivore Capital, a Mumbai-based agriculture technology venture capital firm that raised and deployed $65 million between 2010 and 2013; the firm has gone on to be called Omnivore Partners.

Babu has joined a growing team; this year Equilibrium has also hired Rob Hurlbut as principal in the Agriculture Capital Management (ACM) team and Rebeca Ehrnrooth as the firm’s first European representative for distribution.

Ehrnrooth joined the company from Rational Asset Management where she was head of distribution. Hurlbut joined from Attune Foods, a company that he founded in 2006.
