JB Equity brings on new partner for SE Asia

The agri-specialist PE firm will also reveal its first two investments within the next six months.

The agri-only private equity and advisory firm JB Equity has added Glen Illing as its fourth partner. It also expects to close its first two acquisitions in the next six months, associate Erik Tveteraas told Agri Investor.

Illing will be based in Bangkok to ramp up the deal pipeline in South-East Asia. He joined JB from Topigs Norsvin, a global pig genetics company, and previously led a management buyout of the SyAqua Group, an applied aquaculture biotechnology company. He has an MBA from the University of Bath and an agriculture degree.

Tveteraas said, “His expertise in pork and aqua genetic breeding programmes is what really made him attractive to us.”

The associate added the firm is finalising one leverage buyout deal in Eastern Europe in the agri space and a biotech deal in the UK.  The firm plans to raise a more traditional PE fund in Q1 2016.

Edinburgh-based JB Equity was founded in 2013 by co-founders Kristian Bennetsen, previously an investment manager at Emirates NBD Private Banking, and Martin Hjorth Jensen, who has an extensive background in pig breeding and commercial pig farming. Its US partner is Joseph Connor, also the president of Carthage Group which provides swine veterinary and management consulting services.
